Located in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, Zhejiang University City College (ZUCC) is now seeking multiple applicants to fill Academic English Lecturer teaching positions within the English Foundation Program (EFP) of their joint institute with New Zealand’s University of Waikato, The University of Waikato Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College (NZUWI). The NZUWI is a modern learning facility, equipped throughout with Wi-Fi; touch-screen and peer-to-peer capable smart-boards; various-sized lecture halls, labs and classrooms; and multiple forms of moveable classroom furniture. The NZUWI EFP uses current textbook and online-learning offerings from McGraw-Hill and PEARSON Longman to deliver courses divided into reading & writing and listening & speaking.
Academic English Teaching Post: Teach Academic English to college freshmen
Qualifications: Required - MA/MS (Preferably in Applied Linguistics, ESL, or TESOL); two years of verifiable, tertiary-level teaching experience; Preferred – tertiary-level Academic English teaching experience; familiarity with APA research/writing style; familiarity with Blackboard learning platform; high MSWord proficiency; moderate PowerPoint proficiency; moderate Excel proficiency
Application and Start Dates: Applications accepted until position is filled; Start date is according to current pandemic-related travel measures and restrictions (ZUCC NZUWI assists with obtaining PRC employment VISA)
Work Details: Teach a 16-week instructional semester and administer & score final exams during weeks 17-18; Teach a maximum of 18 45-minute teaching hours per week; Adhere to the assigned course outlines, syllabi, student assignments, assessments and record-keeping (including attendance) for the course(s) taught; Participate in curriculum/course development; Participate in developing assessments and assessment rubrics aimed at standardizing course assessments and their marking and scoring; Mark and score assessments according to assessment rubrics; Participate in professional development meetings and classroom observations; Tutor and track—some evening sessions (18:30-20:05) may be applicable—the progress of individual students experiencing difficulty with their English language development; Prepare and deliver workshops on library database searching and APA
Contract: Initially, one-year renewable; full-time; second contract negotiable
Salary: For lecturers renewing for at least one academic year, 12 months paid at a minimum of RMB17,000/month; For lecturers not renewing for at least one academic year, 11 months paid at a minimum of RMB17,000/month

China “Z (work) VISA” and “Residence Permit” requirements: 1) Authentication of degree diploma by a PRC embassy or consulate; 2) Authentication of criminal background check by a PRC embassy or consulate; 3) Original employment reference(s) stating teaching employment position(s) and dates for a minimum of two years of English-teaching experience; and 4) Passing of PRC standardized physical exam, indicating “good health”
