Overview

Sheng Da College near Zhengzhou, China is now recruiting for English teaching positions for the 2007-2008 [beginning August 28, 2007] academic year.
The salary range per month is 4000 - 5200 RMB [BA/BS - 4000 RMB; MA/MS - 4500 RMB; PhD - 5000 RMB]. TEFL certification and ESL teaching experience are worth an additional 200 RMB per month. There抯 a winter travel bonus of 1500 RMB, and there抯 also a summer travel bonus of 1500 RMB if the contract is renewed for a second academic year.

The teaching schedule will involve English majors and non-English majors for a total of 18 hours per week [nine, two-hour classes], Monday to Friday [no weekends]. The curriculum will comprise oral, written and movie English. An additional two hours of tutoring [English corner] will be required each week.

The Dean of Foreign Languages has high expectations of the foreign and Chinese teachers as well as the students, and he continually strives for excellence within the department. The curriculum is supported with various textbooks, and the teachers are encouraged to bring, develop and use their own materials and strategies.

Sheng Da College is composed of complete facilities and a strong teaching faculty, and it has nearly 16,000 full-time undergraduates in eight departments offering more than 25 disciplines. The college has evolved into a multilevel and multiform educational system focusing on undergraduate education. Its campus is situated in the countryside with a park/lake atmosphere, and when compared to numerous colleges/universities in China, it offers an attractive package that places the ESL teacher in a fine working and living environment.

Free accommodation is provided with a fully-furnished apartment: free ADSL Internet connection; television; Western toilet and bathroom [shower]; air conditioned bedroom; microwave; stove/refrigerator; washing machine; etc. The phone bill, bottled water and cooking gas are paid by the teacher. Secure facilities are provided, and there抯 an attendant on duty. An Internet cafe, game room [pool, ping pong], movie room [DVD] and workout room are located in the apartment lobby area. A shopping bus to Zhengzhou [city center] is provided every Saturday.

Round-trip airfare is reimbursed [economy class], and general medical is covered. One week is given off during the National Day holiday [1st week in October], and close to a month and a half is given off during the Chinese New Year. One week is given off for Labour Day week [1st week in May]. The teacher抯 salary continues to be paid during all of this time off.

Sheng Da College is located in Henan Province which is centrally located in China and one of the oldest areas to explore, culturally and historically. Weekend trips are adequate to see a lot of Chinese culture and history in the nearby cities of Luoyang, Kaifeng, Anyang and Deng Feng [Shaolin Temple/Kongfu], not to mention the break periods which allow further exploration farther away in the cities of Beijing [Forbidden City, Great Wall], Xian [Terracotta Warriors], etc.
