Living in Chengdu, the Capital of Sichuan Province

Known as "China's party city" for its relaxed and carefree lifestyle, Chengdu has more bars and teahouses than bustling Shanghai. After indulging in traditional Sichuanese hotpot, wontons, dumplings, noodles, pastries and tangyuan (sweet rice balls) in this UNESCO City of Gastronomy, spend the afternoon sipping tea in one of the ornate, bamboo-bedecked teahouses, where you can observe the locals playing mah-jong, or watch a performance of the Sichuan opera.

Home to one of China’s cutest residents, Chengdu is the best place to meet the Giant Panda. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is open all year round - though April visitors have the unique opportunity to see baby pandas sleeping in the nursery. Of those pandas that live in the wild, most can be found in the large primitive forests in the mountains that surround Chengdu – and with its warm subtropical climate and beautiful nature, Chengdu is ideally located to enjoy the outdoors all year round.

Though proud of its ancient roots – delighting in traditional teahouses, bamboo forests and its treasured pandas, Chengdu is now a modern, people-oriented city with a focus on prioritising quality of life. Chengdu boasts a well-connected metro system and every manner of modern convenience and entertainment, and is now one of the most important economic, financial, commercial, cultural, transportation, and communication centres in Western China.

As well as Chengdu, you can choose from campuses in famed international cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Xi’an, or choose from smaller off-the-beaten-track cities to experience authentic, traditional China.

Our client’s 28 private language centres provide comprehensive training to new recruits, and you will join a group of international colleagues with whom you are welcome to socialise and share ideas. With a community of over 5000 foreign teachers in China, the language centre has its own social network for teachers to ask questions and provide each other with help and support. The company also organizes social and cultural events for teachers to provide opportunities for making friends and gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

With high salaries and huge bonuses, private language centres allow you to put your training into practise in a school where your hard work is reflected in the pay you take home. Compared with public schools and kindergartens, private language centres offer the most opportunities for teachers to quickly advance, offering raises and promotions to teachers who renew their annual contract.

Private language centres are different from other schools in that they offer extra classes to students outside of the usual school day. Since these classes are not compulsory, most students are those who have good language ability and are highly motivated to learn. The small class sizes of 4-6 children allow you to deliver individualised teaching and enjoy a deeper satisfaction as you accelerate your students’ progress.
