About Yuxi city and Hi World education!

Hi world education was established in 2016. In its short time it has gained a fantastic reputation with in the city and already has more than 250 students, the fastest growing school in Yuxi. The school is modern, using the latest technology, combined with small classes, 6-8 students per class, which provides our students with the best start on their path to learning the English language. Unlike other training centres, at Hi World, we allow our foreign teachers to create and model their own classes, with help from our experienced staff and based on the curriculum. This means you have more freedom to change your classroom as you see fit, this also means all classes are different, more exciting for the students and the teacher! For new teachers we will provide lesson plans and ongoing training. At Hi World we value our foreign teachers (not like some of the other stories we have heard from other training centres!). We currently have 4 native foreign teachers at Hi World, from the UK and South Africa, they will conduct all interviews and be your point of contact if you have any problems or queries. Two of our teachers who are from the UK have been with us now for over 2 years, this is because we value our staff and in return offer fantastic benefits, such as all Chinese holidays full pay, around 3 weeks per year, plus 1 weeks paid leave every 3 months, which is far more than any other private school in Yuxi and far more than most private schools! This time is for you to travel and explore China, or even travel to SE Asia, because of our close proximity to Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. We offer our teachers training and full support in helping them settle in to their new teaching role and life in a new city. We offer a fantastic salary for a maximum of 16 teaching hours per week!

About your work hours

The working week here is 5 days per week with 2 days off. The two days you choose will need to be Monday - Thursday. The hours Monday - Friday are 2:30pm -8:30pm (excluding your 2 days off). During the 6-hour day you will also be given a 1 1/2-hour dinner break (5pm - 6:30pm), with the vast majority of classes taking place after 6:30pm (prior to that will be lesson planning etc). 

Saturday and Sunday can alternate, but will usually be 6 hours as well (9am - 3pm or 2pm - 8pm), again with 1 1/2-hour lunch / dinner breaks. As stated previously weekends can alternate and you may be asked to come in early or stay later if classes need to be covered (which is not a common occurrence.Our class sizes are 6 - 8 students per class, ages range from 3 - 12.  

At weekends (Fri - Sun) all meals will be provided for by the school from the local restaurants from around Yuxi.

About Yuxi

Yuxi is a small city located around 60 miles from the capital of Yunnan province, Kunming. Like most cities in China it is developing quickly but still maintains a lot of its old buildings and charm.Yuxi has beautiful scenery, set by the mountains, base of Longma mountain, it provides the perfect opportunity for treks and hiking, discovering caves and waterfalls and enjoying the countryside. Yunnan has the most diverse ethnic communities in the whole of China! Therefore, Yuxi is a rich melting pot of culture and cuisine, discovery and diversity, making it a true travellers dream. Yuxi has a small expat community of people from the UK, USA, Canada and South Africa, of all different ages who will make you feel welcome! Yuxi enjoys a great climate, with plenty of sunshine (Kunming, our closest city is known as the “Spring City”), but minus the extreme hot and humid summers, cold and bitter winters that you would experience in Chinas eastern mega cities such as Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou, not to mention the fresh clean air in Yuxi! Yuxi has a low cost of living, meaning you can save plenty to travel or take home with you. If you find yourself homesick you will find a handful of Western style restaurants, from Italian to French, Korean to Japanese. There is also a Walmart supermarket located in the centre of the city which allows you to purchase some of the items from back home. If you want to enjoy the local cuisine, there is plenty of restaurants and bars, serving all types of Chinese food, from Sichuan hot pot to real local (and sometimes very spicy) Yunnan cuisine.

Yuxi isn’t like a first tier city, or even second or third, HOWEVEW • Experience real China!
There are a LOT of foreigners in 1st tier cities. Even the locals are much more westernized. This can make it harder to immerse in to the Chinese culture and see the real China. Yes, some people want that. However, you risk getting sucked into your own little ‘foreign bubble’. It’s important to put yourself outside of your comfort zone. This way you’ll make more Chinese friends, learn more mandarin and have some great stories to tell.

Position information and requirements:
1. 5 working days per week.

Desired skills and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree.
2. TEFL/TESOL certificate.
3. Native English speakers from UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.
4.Teaching experience preferred but not required.
5. Fluency in oral and written English.
6.Energetic, friendly and hard working.
7.Patient, enthusiastic and passionate in teaching young learners.
