Pay Band: Senior Teacher

Duration: 24 months

Role Purpose

  • To lead on operational and academic management of one of our Metropolitan Seoul YL teaching centres
  • To lead on the design, development, implementation and evaluation of the centre’s young learners programme and services
  • To provide on-going support and development for teachers of young learner courses
  • To contribute to and implement Korea Teaching Centre strategy and objectives in order to meet young learner income and impact targets and enhance British Council’s reputation in Korea as an ELT expert
  • To lead on global course products and product development for young learners in Korea

 Challenges & Accountabilities

Accountabilities:

  •  Efficient operational management of the centre to meet and exceed financial and KBI targets
  • Regional Quality in the Classroom initiatives for young learner product and delivery
  • Efficient and professional management of centre operations to TQS standards
  • Implementation of global child protection policies
  • Customer Feedback Survey targets for young learner parents
  • YL Key Business Indicator targets
  • Line manage up to 6 young learner teachers including one to two coordinators, ensuring the quality of teaching is met.

Responsibilities & Main Duties:

  • Lead on the operational management of one of our Metropolitan Seoul YL centres, including timetabling, cover, placement testing and day to day running of the centre
  • Lead on development of the young learner offer and academic management of the courses
  • Ensure resources (including teachers) are monitored, evaluated, reviewed to support and improve the quality of learning and teaching
  • Contribute to planning, monitoring and reporting of KBI targets for YL programme
  • Liaise with Resources and local Child Protection lead to ensure Health and Safety for young learners meets TQS standards in the centre and implement necessary changes
  • Actively participate in the wider Marketing and Communications team leading on YL market research, promotional and media events (Open Days, Parents’ events, contributions to on-line & off-line media with the marketing team
  • To teach up to 9 hours per week and substitute as required
  • To line manage up to 6 teachers including 1-2 coordinators
  • To recruit, deploy and develop teaching staff appropriately to include delivering YL training
  • Actively participate in wider TC Management Team

Other important features or requirements of the job

You will be expected to liaise with Managers at other premises involving some travel around the Seoul area. You could be asked to attend regional meetings in other countries. You can expect to work 38 hours over a 5 day week, between 11.00am and 7.30pm on weekdays and on a weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) between 9.00am and 6.45pm.

 Requirements

Passport requirements/ Right to work in country

  • To obtain a teaching visa, teachers’ nationalities and university degrees must be from a native English-speaking country defined by the government of South Korea.
  • Visas are not obtained for partners unless they are married.
  • The British Council Korea will provide full assistance throughout the visa application process.

Language requirements

  • High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module

Qualifications

  • Cambridge DELTA/Trinity Dip TESOL
  • Undergraduate degree

Role Specific Knowledge & Experience

Minimum / essential

  • Minimum of 4 years’ YL pedagogical knowledge and experience of Primary Education and YL ELT with recent relevant YL teaching experience (5-18 year olds)

Desirable

  • At least two years’ experience of YL academic management at Senior Teacher level or above
  • Experience as CELTYL/TYLEC Trainer
  • Experience as Trinity Dip TESOL or DELTA local tutor
  • Experience in teaching Early Years and/or training Early Years teachers
