Living in Changsha

The capital of Hunan province in south-central China, Changsha is a city rich in historic sites and modern luxuries. The subtropical climate cultivates Changsha’s natural beauty; you can admire verdant riverfronts and tree-lined streets showcasing magnolia in bloom.

Visit the Western Han Dynasty tombs (202BC-AD) or tour the sites where one of the most controversial figures of the 20th century, Mao Zedong, was born and worked to establish the first footholds of a new political system. At 3000 years old, Changsha is a bustling megacity - now one of China's Top 20 most "economically advanced" cities, fitted with every modern convenience.

Living in Wuhan

Wuhan is largest city in Hubei and the most populous city in Central China, offering breathtaking views of stunning skylines. The adventurous can enjoy white-knuckle rides at Happy Valley adventure park - though Wuhan also offers plenty to those who want to relax. In the springtime, the shores of its famed East Lake transform into a garden of flowers; Mei blossoms and cherry blossoms ornament the trees, and lotus flowers bloom on the surface of the water.

Living in Dalian

Surrounded by the Yellow Sea, Dalian is one of China's most cosmopolitan cities. With its green squares, forest parks and scenic beaches, it is often called 'The City Built in Gardens'. The clean air and temperate weather make it perfect for meandering through its gardens and tree-lined streets, which feature a mixture of stylish futuristic buildings and quaint early-20th-century architecture.

Working in a Kindergarten

If you love children, teaching in a kindergarten is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable ESL positions in China. Your lessons will include playing games, singing songs, telling stories or drawing pictures - the rest of the day is spent playing with the children and assisting them with their daily activities such as crafts, dancing and exercise.

You will take care of the children (aged 3-6) along with two Chinese teachers, giving the children an immersive English environment and helping the other teachers to organise the students during their other lessons. These teachers will also assist you with classroom management during your classes. As your lessons will focus on learning through play, the children will soon learn to eagerly anticipate their English classes. Kindergarten children are very affectionate and openly adore their English teachers – expect to be greeted each morning with smiles and hugs.

More so than with other age groups, you will be able to see your valuable contribution to your students’ development. Across the course of the year, you will see enormous improvements not only in your students’ English, but also in their social skills, their ability to think independently, and their understanding of the world around them.

What We Do

After a successful interview, we’ll support you every step of the way with preparing your paperwork for the Chinese visa and work permit. Once you land, we’ll pick you up from the airport and take you to your new apartment – and from there, we’ll help you with opening a Chinese bank account, getting a Chinese SIM and everything you need to settle in to your new life in China.

Your kindergarten will provide you with a curriculum and teaching materials, and we’ll give you an introduction and orientation to life in China. Throughout your contract, you’ll have an assigned bilingual case-handler who will be available to assist you with any issues you may have during your stay.

 Requirements:

  • Native-level English speaker from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand;
  • Bachelor’s degree or above (all subjects and classifications are welcome);
  • ONE of the following -
    • 120 hour TEFL;
    • Degree in Education, English or a related field;
    • Two years related work experience with reference letter.
