Teaching in Saudi Arabia
As the epicentre of the Arab world, Saudi Arabia boasts many incentives for which to see and experience Middle Eastern and Islamic traditions first-hand. Whether in a desert town gazing out at the Sahara, or teaching in a large city setting bustling with activity, Saudi Arabia offers cultural immersion opportunities and beautiful desert geography like nowhere else.
Cost of living in Saudi Arabia
Living expenses vary by the individual, although most teachers are able to save a good portion of their monthly salary.
Employment packages for teachers usually include generous benefits, which often extend to dependants as well.
Furnished accommodation is routinely provided.
Things for teachers to do in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia a popular nighttime destination for visitors from its neighboring countries. Dining options include anything from Western fast food, to street stalls, to high-end restaurants. During the day, shopping is an extremely popular pastime. There are a number of shopping malls as well as markets.
Saudi Arabia Travel
Many travelers find Saudi Arabia an ideal mix of traditional Arab culture and Western-friendly attitudes. Residents of Saudi Arabia’s neighboring countries, such as Bahrain, often come to Saudi Arabia to relax socially.
Life in Saudi Arabia: Society
Despite aspiring to be a modern country in many respects, Saudi Arabia still has one of the most traditional societies in the world. Life in Saudi Arabia is governed by firm religious beliefs, rules and traditions, and expats living in Saudi Arabia have to get used to that as there is no way around it.
The traditions and attitudes of Saudi Arabia have been shaped by Islam as well as Bedouin culture. Thus, expats living in Saudi Arabia will discover that family bonds are still much stronger than in many other cultures, to an extent that they permeate all aspects of life in Saudi Arabia, even in the business world.
Living in Saudi Arabia: Culture
Cultural life in Saudi Arabia has to be in agreement with strict interpretations of the Quran. In practice, this means that the visual arts, for example, are limited to geometric, floral or abstract designs, as representations of human beings are forbidden. Although there are some cinemas in larger cities, relinquishing the joys of theater comes with the territory of life in Saudi Arabia for expats.
Music and dance form an important part of cultural life in Saudi Arabia, as does Bedouin poetry. Literature in Saudi Arabia in general is, however, kept in check by strict censorship rules. If a life in Saudi Arabia is planned for expats, they should be aware that, just as there is no freedom of religion, there is no real freedom of expression, either.

The Place and the Lifestyle
The UAE is located on the Persian Gulf in the Middle East. The country is comprised of seven states called emirates. Dubai is easily the most famous of these, but its sister emirate of Abu Dhabi is quickly catching up in name recognition and prestige (and as an up-and-coming location has more untapped opportunities). The climate is very sunny and hot from April to November. The temperatures are no joke: in the summer months, the average highs hover around 40C. But life here is set up for that – every public space, private home, and vehicle is comfortably air-conditioned. This doesn’t mean you will be stuck indoors, however. Winter months are UAE’s best-kept secret:
Teaching & Living in UAE
The nation of the United Arab Emirates is actually seven independently governed emirates. The largest cities of the UAE are Abu Dhabi City and Dubai. Abu Dhabi is one of the seven emirates with Abu Dhabi City its capital. It is a cosmopolitan city populated by native Arabs as well as many expats. From shopping malls to beautiful beaches, a teaching job in the UAE will never be boring. If you are an ambitious educator and desire to grow professionally and have the chance to explore the Middle East, Abu Dhabi is the perfect place.
Any teaching job in the UAE can be a challenging cultural experience for any Westerner as well as a challenging job. With a strong desire to modernize education systems and provide the best education possible, much is expected from teachers in the Middle East. However, don’t let that discourage you from seeking out teaching jobs in the UAE, because it is an unmatchable, amazing experience certain to transform your life. Teaching jobs in the Middle East are rewarding and create the opportunity to gain invaluable experience while participating in historical, ongoing, educational reform.

Travel and Tourism in Kuwait
With no travel restrictions, educators are free to explore the entire geography of this tiny nation. For instance, the Grand Mosque is religious attraction that showcases world famous architecture. Or the Scientific Center in Kuwait city, which is a mixture of science-orientated museum and outdoors entertainment center. A gift to the people from the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, it can also be a gift to any teachers looking to pick up an exciting new lesson plan. A nice mixture of nature and landscaping nurture, in the middle of Kuwait there is a large zoological garden that is a must-see for the outdoorsy and animal loving teachers.
After exploring some of these urban sites, venture out to the edge of the city to visit Kuwait bay. Accounting for 40% of the state’s shoreline, it is home to many inviting beaches with diving and water sports. In addition, ‘sea clubs’ provide sporting facilities and swimming pools for those instances where the beach is not an option.
Living and Working in Kuwait
Living and working in Kuwait is substantially different than living in many Western countries. One of the primary differences is the fact that liquor is completely prohibited. Another difference felt immediately is the fact that men outnumber woman substantially (approximately 2-1).
The summertime is a notably warm experience. Since Kuwait is one of the smallest countries in the world, there is no real difference in temperature by region. The average highs in August push 44 degrees Celsius (112.1 Fahrenheit) with highs in December hovering around 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit). Dress code restrictions apply to women—shoulders and knees must be covered, so teachers will want to pack accordingly. Options for acquiring clothing are readily available.
