The E2 visa is a teaching visa only issued to qualified candidates who are citizens of one of seven countries recognized by Korea immigrations as a native English-speaking country.

Typical salary and benefits for a 1-year contract
Salary: about 2,100,000 won to 2,700,000 won starting (equivalent to about 2,000 USD to 2,500 USD)
Housing: typically, a studio type apartment with all furnishing including TV, furniture and cooking utensils.
Airfare: One way from your country and to your country after the contract.
Health insurance: national health insurance
Pension: pension is provided and can be collected at the end of you contract according to govt agreements. If your govt does not have a treaty with Korea it might not be provided.
Severance: at the end of your 1-year contract you will receive a severance equal to 1 months' pay
*On average a teacher will save around 1 mil won per month (about 1,000 USD) and walk away with about 15,000 USD at the end of their contract

Or the teacher might have things to do like studying for a masters course or something different and use their free time to develop their own things.
