About the Job

Overview

Hello!

Culture Aangan is a social enterprise that develops sustainable rural tourism projects at the grass root level, and we are currently conducting an IFAD (https://www.ifad.org/) funded project in three villages in the Tehri Garwhal region of Uttarakhand.

We develop rural homestays, but more importantly, train people from the villages in several domains so that they are able to manage the homestays themselves. In doing so, an alternate source of livelihood is created, and this leads to social and economic empowerment of the villagers, mostly women and youth.

An important skill needed nowadays is the ability to speak and understand English, however in the villages, there are very few people who have the ability to speak or understand basic English. We are hoping to change this, and for this reason we are looking for interns or volunteers who are willing to spend a minimum of two weeks teaching basic English skills in the villages.

-The emphasis will be on conversational english, to get people used to basic english sentences, and to help them get over their shyness at responding in a language they aren't familiar with.
- The people you will be teaching will be within the age range of 20-50 years.
- The volunteer/intern has the freedom to develop the study plan in the way they want based on their assessment of the skills of the local people.

The area is completely safe, and the people are very friendly, hospitable and very willing to learn. You will be in touch with me as well as my on-site community manager at all times.

All food and board covered in a beautiful traditional Himalayan homestay with a lovely family and a stunning view of the mountains.
You will get your own room with an ensuite bathroom complete with hot water.
There are numerous treks and farm routes that the Community Manager will be more than happy to take you on.
Certificate of Volunteering/Internship.

Requirements
