Dongguan University of Technology

Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT), founded in April 1992, was ratified by Ministry of Education in March 2002 to start four-year undergraduate programs and entitled to confer the Bachelor抯 Degree. Dr. Yang Zhenning, Nobel Laureate in Physics, is its honorary president, and Liu Shuji, the vice-chairman of CPC Dongguan City Committee, is the concurrent chairman of its Provisional CPC Committee. Dr. Yang Xiaoxi is its incumbent president, who is a professor in Energy Conservation, Enhancement of Heat and Mass Transfer and Chemical Engineering.


Dongguan is a famous modern manufacturing metropolis, ranking12th of "National Top 100 Cities" in terms of comprehensive strength. It was also awarded as "The Most Charming City of China", and " The Most Economically Dynamic City in China".


DGUT is the first regular university of Dongguan. It has two campuses: the Songshan Lake campus and the Guancheng campus. Songshan Lake campus is the major campus, covering an area of 100 hectares, tastefully landscaped with lakes, green trees and colorful flowers. With advanced management and facilities, the university has been created as a modern digital campus in the full harmony with the nature.


At present the university consists of 14 regular departments, offering 20 undergraduate programs and 40 three-year programs. By now, the university has reached the recruitment of 10,000 full-time students nationwide.


We have established a strong, reputable faculty. Among the full-time teachers, associate professors make up 35.9%, teachers with Master抯 degree and Doctor抯 degree account for over 60.3%. Most of them are middle-aged or young teachers or personnel returned from abroad after advanced studies. Mr. Xu Jianzhong, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Qiu Chengtong, world-famous mathematician and winner of the Fields Prize for Mathematics, and other professors of international prestige have come one after another, engaged as our honorary professors, visiting professors or part-time professors.








While improving its teaching quality, the university lays emphasis on the cultural and ideological construction and quality-oriented education. During the annual Campus Science and Culture Festival, science & culture, social practice, voluntary services and all kinds of activities started by student organizations are fully presented. All of these provide a good opportunity for students to show their elegant demeanor and bring forth new ideas, and thus have been honored and awarded by authorities of municipal, provincial and state level.


The developing DGUT is working hard to turn itself into an important base for training talents and original scientific research, cradle for transformation of achievements in scientific research. The university is on its way to being a famous characteristic local university.
